ie 7.0 vs firefox shortcuts

I recently installed Firefox and then, a couple of weeks later,
uninstalled it. The shortcuts on my desktop continue to want to
default to Firefox, and keep asking me what program I want to use to
open them. This happens even if I go into IE 7.0, manually type in the
url, and create a new shortcut. And if I check "always use this
program for this type of file"... it still asks me the next time thru.
Any idea how I can get back to a simple IE default for these shortcuts?

IE7 seems to be the version I recently downloaded, not knowing it's in beta.
Would I be better served... and solve this problem... by getting IE6?

On the occasions when an IE7 Q is asked in the IE6 browser group, I have
read that on the installing of IE7 your system should return to IE6.
I would suggest you try the correct group as below-and some links courtesy
