I have run through the PC as far as adware, malware, and grayware. I have
scanned for virus using multiple systems, and cleaned up the registry.

Here is the issue though, when I go to use IE at times it simply will not
start. Going in and looking at the processes I see that at times IE 6 does
not fully end for some reason. I even get to a point at times when attempting
to shut down my PC it states that this program is running and I have to kill
it manually.

I can generally go into processes and kill the program which will then allow
me to launch IE again but really that is an undesirable situation. I would
just like for it to work properly. My wife and daughter use this computer as
well and really do not understand how to get it to work again and I do not
feel they should have to anyway.

A bit of a history. I did just uninstall firefox, and IE 7 beta 2 from my pc
and this may be a contributing factor.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Thorn,
Try to look for this Clsid and delete from your registry it's been left from
the IE7 instalation:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ClSID\{c90250f3-4d7d-4991-9b69-ac5c5bclc2ae6}
Delete from there and close your Registry Editor [ courtesy of MVP Ramesh].
Open the Run Command and Type: netsh winsock reset click OK and then
Reboot your machine.

If no Joy then try Reinstall/Repair for IE6 from the Control Panel, by going
to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and be sure the Option on
the top for *Show Updates* is checked and scroll dwon to Internet Explorer
and click on it you will see a highlighted Window with Change/Remove click on
it and you will represent with Repair | Remove | options select Repair
and wait for it to finish.
Reboot your machine and see if the issue cured.

If still no joy try System Restore when things were working Status.

HTH
Please let us know your outcome.
Regards
nass
