Hi. I need to have IE6 to run a certain program. However, everytime I have
tried to download it I get an error message saying unable to complete
installation process and it tells me to reboot. I am running Windows ME.
WHat am I doing wrong? Thanks..Doreen

When installing IE, it's best to first do a power-off reboot, then disable
any anti-virus program you may have running, then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and End
Task on everything on the list except (Windows) Explorer and Systray. Then
try your install again. This method will help prevent any program you may
have running in the background, and the anti-virus software, from
interfering with the install of IE. Some AV software just plain messes up
an install of IE, and other programs may be using a file that IE needs to
update/replace/remove.

HI. Yes, I did download from Windows Update. At the end of installation, I
am asked to reboot. After I do, a popup appears that says: Shortcut "Resume
Windows Update Installation.INK" refers to a location that is unavailable.
So now, I have it installed, but cannot access it. Any ideas where that file
might be?

X-post to WinME General

Did you have IE6 installed at one point and then reinstalled WinME without
first uninstalling IE6?

For the "unable to install all components" issue with IE6SP1 and WinME, try
this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee
