IE 6; XP SP2; Slow Download - Single Site - Wired vs Wireless

Hi... I'm hoping someone can help me work through a problem.

I am trying to access information on a particular website (newsoftinc.com).
On an XP SP2 maching, it takes between 5 and 10 minutes for the page to load.
(It appears that the pictures for the page are what is taking all of the
time.) The Dell box is connected to a DSL modem through a SMC Barricade
wireless router. (This box is connected via a CAT 5 cable.) I have spoken
with NewSoft, and they don't have any idea what may be causing the problem.

I have the same problem with another system (Win 2000 SP 4) that is also
connected via CAT 5 cable to the router.

I have two other systems connected wirelessly through the same router that
work great. Both of those systems are XP SP 2. That makes no sense to me.

All caches are cleared. Adaware and Spybot are run daily. There doesn't
appear to be a problem in this regard.

I have compared security settings and other options between the primary
system (hardwired XP) and the system connected wirelessly (also running XP).
I can't find anything that makes any sense. I have followed many of the other
suggestions on this board.

Why is it only this one website, and why only is there a problem on the
systems connected by hardwire to the router?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I can't access the site

Hi D@nnyBoy,

Thanks for your reply. I just don't understand why I can access it from some
computers and not others. I'm glad to know it isn't just me.

Thanks

Jeff

Perhaps it's a problem with your DNS. Using nslookup I found this about it.
Notice that starting with just the domain name I was unsuccessful.
I had to use www.newsoftinc.com to start with.
Also notice that I couldn't use their DNS name either.
I had to use their DNS IP address instead.

Once I got that straightened out I had no problem loading the site's home page.

On an XP SP2 maching, it takes between 5 and 10 minutes for the page to load.

I doubt that guess unless you are getting a totally different page than the one I'm being served.
FWIW I'm on dial-up. Using the TIF viewer the biggest image that I see for that page
is home_bnr.jpg 49 KB. The next biggest object is the script file, stm31.js 33 KB.
BTW "TIF viewer" == Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V plus Alt-V,D and Alt-V,I,Last Accessed

Also, since the images are all cached you would only see a delay due to downloading once.

What happens if you try loading just the .jpg? Try it first with Work Offline set.
Then reload it (and only it) completely by pressing Ctrl-F5.
