IE 6 works fine on startup then dies

I am running IE6 on WIN98SE and have encountered a problem
with IE6 working fine when my computer first starts up.
Several minutes later it will not load any pages through
IE6, although email and MSN work fine. It doesn't seem to
matter what webpages I try and load.

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).
