IE 6 won't launch normally and home page screwy

A couple of days ago, with no forewarning, IE 6 simply
refused to open when I click on the icon. It will launch
if it is told to go to a particular site when it opens
(e.g. Windows Update or even Yahoo), but not if I just
click on the icon. In what must be a related problem,
once I get the program to launch, I can't set the home
page. When I open the Internet Options screen, the home
page listed is gibberish. I can input a URL, but it
doesn't stick once I close Internet Options.

I've run Ad-aware and Spyware and both came up negative.
No viruses found either, and I had Norton Firewall running
at the time this first occurred. I assume something is
out of whack in the registry, but I'm not familiar enough
with it to fix it myself. Knowledge Base was of no help
that I could find.

Any kind souls out there who can help me fix this?
Thanks in advance.
