IE 6 very slow and usses all my resources

I am using XP and everything was working fine until
yesterday. When I use IE6 it takes several minutes to pull
up a page. It also hogs up all of my resources and I
cannot do anything. When I shut it down through the
taskmaster the resources are freed up. I can browse using
Netscape or Opera and everything works fine.

Any ideas?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
