How do I verify that the URL uses the HTTP protocol and points to an .ins file?
The reason I ask is because I have to have the http:// protocol in my url
for the browser to locate a web page. If it is not the browser just spins
forever.......

At one time I could just type in the address bar www.microsoft.com and
instantly go to the web page, but now I must type http://www.microsoft.com to
go to the page.

Thanks for any help.

If Don's solution doesn't work, try:

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

You may have to Restart the computer.

Can this also be corrected under the Internet Options Advanced tab -- for
searching set it to go to the site? Is editing the registry neccessary ?
Thanks--

Don, Frank, and CJ.....thanks for the replies, however, after
applying all the suggestions the problem still remains.

After rebooting a couple of downloads automatically showed up:
http://c:/Program Files/KFH/cl/launcher.exe and
http://c:/WINDOWS/supervisor.exe

I have not executed those files...don't know what ot expect.
Any ideas?

Thanks.....GM

First eliminate any scumware.
What You Should Know About Spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/devioussoftware.mspx

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
