Operating Wind XP Professional, trying to download trial version of MS Office
from their site and run into the "forbidden" message every time.

Hi JohninParker :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

I Can't Download Anything Since Installing XP Service Pack 2
http://www.tugvalleyoutdoors.com/xp_help.htm

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Update: Error Message: "Internet Explorer Cannot
Download a File"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7f-e6da-4990-a63a-a162822a5c0e&DisplayLang=en

Error message: "Internet Explorer cannot download a file"

It's also worth checking if you have a orphaned download handler entry in
the registry which is causing the behavior. Disable or uninstall any
download managers if you've installed any. To verify if there are any
remnant download hooks in the system, try the advice here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/downloadmgrs.htm

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Thank you for the suggestions; I went through those precedures and they don't
seem to address my situation. The error message is "http error 403 -
forbidden" and I have set IE to accept cookies. Any other ideas?

John

Hi John :-)

You don't mention if you are getting any error messages, or what they are,
so I am only able to guess at what is causing the problem. Try this and see
if it helps:

Clear out temporary files and delete cookies.

If you do not need to use a proxy, disable it:
Tools>Internet Options> Connections tab> LAN Settings button
Under Proxy server, make sure the box there is unchecked

and.......

HTTP 403.15 - Forbidden: Client Access Licenses Exceeded

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.
