Hi,

This is beginning to drive me nuts. Suddenly IE shows only empty pages
when I want to access a page on the internet. When I open up an HTML
file on my local disk it will show it without problem. This problem
appeared after I installed VS 2005, SQL server and Office 2003.
I am using XP Professional with the latest updates. I also have plenty
of RAM and disk space.
I have looked at the packet statistics of my network adapater and it
looks like 0 bytes get transferred during a request. This make me
believe there is a problem with the network settings.
I have checked the proxy settings and they seem fine. Firefox and Opera
also work just fine. I have installed IIS on my local machine and even
that doesn't work with IE but it works fine with Firefox. So it's not
my internet connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hans Merkl

i've been experiancing the same problem, someone suggested its the wmf bug,
but that wasn't it, i even searched for spyware and virus' and still nada

I'm having the same problem with a certain secure website. When I click on
the link, it takes forever to open the page, and when it does, it's blank.
Confusing!

So what do we do now? March to Redmond to MS's headquarters?

heh don't tempt me, though https does work, not http. there has to be a bug
somewhere that microsoft isn't acknowledging

Also worth a try (and mentioned in one of those articles) Turn on the
Windows Firewall (from Control Panel or Security Center) and disable the
third-party firewall (if running one.) Disabling third-party security,
privacy, ad-blocking programs may point to one of them as the culprit.

Hope this helps,

port 443 is the https way and theres no problem with that. i've been through
all of that its the http on ie and not all the way around on the puter

Don,
I have tried your suggestions without success. Interestingly https
works.

I reinstalled my machine today and ran into the same propblem. With a
fresh OS IE worked fine. I can't exactly tell when IE stopped but I
think it was after I ran Windows Update.

Hi,
You're having the problem with non-https pages, right? If you startup in
Safe Mode with Networking, does IE still have the problem? Have you tried
uninstalling the last couple of IE Updates?

Have you done a thorough check for malware, including Ad-aware, Spybot and
Windows AntiSpyware? Posted a HijackThis log to one of the forums?
