Hello,

I successfully repaired IE6 a while ago. Now, at startup, Windows XP
displays "IE 6 has been removed from your computer. Would you like to clean
up your personalized settings?" I choose No and all is fine. This is a minor
annoyance. How can I prevent Windows from displaying this startup message?

Chris

I successfully repaired IE6 a while ago.

And how did you do that?

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

After running this edit, rename the CatRoot2 folder (Windows\CatRoot2) and
then go to Start/Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf.
Locate the MSOE50.INF file. Right click it and select Install.

I ran the following commands:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

My hotmail was messed up.

Chris

I proceeded with your instructions. The installation program asks for
"setup50.exe on the Windows Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD." I looked for the
file on MS support but couldn't find it.

Chris

A rather extreme step to take because "[your] Hotmail was messed up", IMHO,
especially given the problems that zillions of other Hotmail users have been
having for the past month.

If you already had SP2 installed, reinstalling it is the equivalent of
"repairing" (reinstalling) IE.

Yeah, well, water over the dam. My Hotmail was having script errors 100% of
the time. They stopped after I ran the mentioned command.

I finished the procedure you recommended, yet Windows still displays the
same message on startup. I'm stymied.

Set if setting the "IsInstalled" flag back to "1" (DWORD) in this key helps:
