I'm running Windowss XP pro and IE6. Turned on my pc today, and all my
desktop shortcuts to various web pages now have ".url " added to the
end of them. This is also happened to all of my sites stored in "My
Favorites". Every address ends in ".url". The links still all work,
but this can't be normal. So far have scanned for viruses-none found,
ran the usual anti-spyware proggies, again nothing came up. Any idea's
what hapened and how to fix it ?
Thanks in advance.

Your registry was changed so that Windows now shows the usually well hidden
URL extension. I don't remember how I did that on one of my machines, but I
know I did it on purpose. How is it a problem?

I take it personally when something changes on any of my machines,
without me being directly responsible for the changes. Just recently
my son's pc lost all associations on his pc due to some messsanger
virus, thought this was something simmilar. and it just bugs me
because I know its just not right.

Hi,
See http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/favext.htm

This may be the registry edit that Frank mentioned.
