IE 6 opens very slowly

I am using windows xp home, and connect via a cable modem. Lately when
loading Internet explorer, the browser home pages opnes about half way, then
there is a pause of around 30-40 seconds before it opens fully and i can
begin browsing. Any ideas to to fis this prolem would be greatly appreciated

First eliminate any scumware.
