I am asking this again. My previous post in the "general" newsgroup
did not answer my question!!

I have a PC that whenever the user tries to access the MSNBC web
site, the IE 6 sp2 (XP Pro) hangs then crashes and comes up with a
"send to Microsoft" request. It's the only web site that causes this
and only in IE 6 (Firefox works correctly.) I have checked into the
event logs and this generates the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 2/8/2007
Time: 5:50:19 PM
User: N/A

Description:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting
module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2945, fault address 0x00012a5b.

Without reinstalling XP, or switching to Firefox/Opera perminately,
how do I correct this since the user is wanting to use IE6 (and not
any other browsers.)

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I gave all the info I could get. IE does not state any error message
It just "crashes" with a request to send to Microsoft. I also posted
the Event Log error message. "What else do I post!"

I explained what other information would be useful and ways to get it.
Read and follow my suggestions? If you have difficulty interpreting
what I wrote explain what your difficulties are.

I finally fixed this problem!!!! Turned out the client did not
complete the install of Windows Media Player 11. Once I rolled back
to WMP 10, MSNBC.COM now works!
