Lyor

For some unknown reason, IE gives me a an error every
time I try and launch it (started a couple of days ago).

The error message is as follows:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName:
sysil32.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000143ce

Searched the web and incredibly enough found absolutely
no info on sysil32.dll

Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Thx.

Dear Lyor,
I face a similar problem with you.
If somebody gives you a successful answer please forward it to me.
Thank you very much.

Just a thought read kristi's post above. she says delete
(you don't have to use shreader though. just delete it to
the recycle bin(that way you can restore it if it does not
work)
Do a search for sysil32.dll and send it temp to the
recycle bin. I would be interested if it works.
good luck

Thanks for the reply Marc. Should have also added that
although the error message points to that DLL, when I
search my machine, it is nowhere no be found. I am 5
minutes away from just reformating and trying to convince
Microsoft to let me use my key again...

Ok wait don't format it
Think about this. just a guess.
IF IE can crash cause a file is there then it sure could
crash if it isn't there.
Try to find the file and put it everywhere you think IE
would look for it.
like the win directory the system32 dir.
Also make sure in your windows explorer you have the hide
system files unchecked. then do another search
Give it a shot let me know. I feel for you this is so
frustrating.
Good luck
Marc
did you check for both files the winshow and the one you
mentioned?

Marc was correct. Formatting will fix the problem but it isn't really
solving the problem. I spent nearly an hour searching for
sysil32.dll, which is the error message from XP regarding why IE
crashes. This was the only english message Google (or any other
search engine including MS KB) found.

Here's the real fix. This bug was caused by a toolbar installed by
the user. I still don't know/care which one but in my searching I
found another post that led me to here:

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm#Toolbarcop

From here ToolbarCop was able to identify the sysil32.dll belonged to
a toolbar and I used it to removed the code and registry items from
the system. Voila! IE runs again.

I hope this is of help to others with a similar problem.
