Every time I try to access updates for Explorer or
Windows98 I receive a message advising that a problem has
been encountered and the program needs to close. I have
run Adaware/Spybot, no problems identified. Details of
the problem are; Appver 6.0.2800.1106 / ModVer
6.3.2800.1106 / Offset 00006e47.
Thanks to Smoker for the Bigfix advice. However, the
problem persists with download sites such as Adaware
insomuch as I can receive updated definitons but when I
try to access the download site for version 1.04 the
program closes quoting the same details. Any advice
gratefuly received. Many thanks.

Paul,

The crash details you have given aren't sufficient
but thank you for at least including your OS in your
problem description.

Here is an excerpt from a previous reply to a user who also had
a crash in your OS.

Try an experiment for me? (This is not my OS so I'm curious to know
how one gets better diagnostics on yours.) Before clicking on the Debug
button start DrWatson.

<title>KB275481 - How to Troubleshoot Program Faults with Dr. Watson</title>

There is similar functionality in NTx via two distinct windows but it sounds
as if you are getting it all in one somehow? However, just to be clear,
see the picture in this article to see what I assume you mean by the
"Click here" link. Notice that there is no Debug button on it.

<title>KB276550 - Description and availability of Internet Explorer Error Reporting tool</title>

</excerpt>

BTW at least on NTx it is possible to capture the Error Signature
which the above "Click here" link shows. To do that drag your mouse
over the text below Error Signature and press Ctrl-c. That puts it in the
Clipboard from where you can paste it into a reply or a notepad window.
Unfortunately I have not yet found a way to capture the other crash details
that the (unshown) Error Signature dialog can lead to. That's why I'm hoping
that Dr Watson will be able to show you more information, in particular
I think it may be necessary to see a Stack Back Trace which shows you
the calls which lead up to the crash. (Often callers are more responsible
for crashes than the crashing module itself. Focusing only on the crashing
module unfortunately obscures this possibility.)
