I have a problem that when I use IE the first page comes up but when I try to
access the next it all locks up. so far have traced this to \Local
Settings\History IE5\index.dll. MS have suggested that I eliminate all temp
internet files and then clear history but as soon as I clear history it
screws up again, If I set up other accounts they are OK, any ideas other than
clear that account?

Hi Don :-)

Your History folder may be corrupted and you can delete it and create a new
one. But, first, make sure there is no scumware on your system causing the
problem:

Then download and install BHODemon from
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm
Your problem may be caused by a bad BHO.

If this does not resolve the problem, the do the following. Run all programs
in Safe Mode:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

If still no joy, then try this:

To create a new History Folder
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm (XP systems)
When you delete the History folder and Index.dat, a new one will be created
for you when you reboot.

Hope this helps :-)

I Ran BHO Demon without finding any problems and then to try and follow you
other suggestions I can not find out how to run in safe mode, have tried the
help page but this PC does not do what MS say, is this because I am running
XP with SP2 which does seem to alter a lot of things
Thanks for your help

Spysweeper --- by Webroot --- it costs a lot of money -- $30+ but really
worth it, imo.

Sorry I forgot to include it, and you should also enable Hidden Files as
well for the scans.
