Inerent Explorer has an entry file:/0.0.0.0 in the sensitive sites, which
cannot
be removed (it comes back immediately)

The apparent damage is that every call to HELP (in msdn for exemple, or
in Logitech software) give a message :
due to security setting, active x cannot be used

What can I do to kill this stupid beast ?
I do want to forbid Active X, but not when off line!

Just to say the message is "your current
security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on
this page. As a result, the page may not display
correctly"

And I am not using any firewall, just plain Norton virus NAV.

Check for trojan/virus.

Get help from this forum.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:

p.s.
Many others are getting this error
"your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on
this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly"

You have added one more element in the sensitive zone. If you get the
solution please post the solution for future reference.

I'll go to the forum, but:

Nav, Spybot, Adaware (all updated) do not find anything worse than a cookie.

I found 4 suspicious looking files in Hijackthis.
p_981116.exe, but it seems to be a MS patch for a codec in Direct X
LVcomS.exe, but it seems to come from my latest Logitech camera install
STImon.exe seems to be legitimate Microsoft stuff

After removing all this entries (and even the p_98... program file,) the
same problem is
still occuring.

I checked the versions of comcat.dll (5.0) and ole32.dll(4.71.2900) (pb
related
in your pages), and they are identical to older copies of them.

I removed the file:/*.0.0.0.0 which was present in sensitive sites.

I also removed the latest Logitech soft... Nothing... Although the problem
came approximately at that time.

All this does not do any good...

I am still desesperate....

Thanks for your help,

Ohhh...
I checked most of your suggestions... to no avail.

I DO NOT have any known spyware, including CWS
cwshredder says I am clean...

I do have matching comcat (5.0) and ole32 (4.71.2900) dll files

I tried to put 'allow download of signed activex' in all my
security levels.

This fairly cover all the articles published on this problem, so it
must be something else... but What ?

This began fairly recently.... But I am getting sick of it...

Happy new year
