IE 6 keeps crashing.

I've been using this computer running Windows XP and it's been working
fine for months. But the last couple of days IE6 has been constantly
crashing. It usually happens when I have several browser windows open
at the same time. And I've noticed it usually happens when I try to
open a web site that is attempting to run a script. But other than that
I can't say which types of web sites cause it to crash.
Worse is that rather than the usually mode of operation when IE has to
close giving you a warning and allowing you to file a fault report,
what happens is that all browser windows are immediately just closed
with no warning or indication of what the fault was and no means to
file a fault report.
I did a virus check and addware check and the computer comes up clean.
And I've downloaded and installed the latest updates.
Any idea what the problem is? How do I display the files storing where
and how the fault occurs?

I've been having the same problem for many months now. Unlike your problem,
even if I have only one window open, and a link goes to open another, all
windows shut down. My workaround is this: If I have IE open, I then go to
File/New/Window. Then, when a new window opens from that window, everything
works fine. The shutdown only occurs when I open new IE sessions, as opposed
to a "sub-session".

For maybe 2 weeks IE6 has crashed but with error reporting. It happens
reliably after clicking a media player link as in BBC news site. You ususlly
get to watch the video then any browser back or new link will cause a hang.
It causes grief to Dr Watson too - both are featured Event log as application
hangs. It looks similar to your problem possibly?

Sounds like spyware. I noticed that you've scanned your PC with Ad-Aware.
This is a good start, but it's not sufficient. Spyware can be very difficult
to remove. The page below lists several fine products that might help you. I
personally prefer SpySweeper. It's not free, but there is a 30-day free
trial.
