Every time I boot up a window comes up with
the choices to continue the install or do a new
install. If I check
on either choice it comes back and says it's
already installed.
If I cancel I can bypass it but I can't use IE.
Any idea's what's
happening and how I can get it to stop trying to
install ?

I have a Micron PC, running Windows Me

Had you installed IE6 SP1 and then reinstalled WinME without having first
uninstalled IE6 SP1?

No, I never got to the reinstall of Win Me as it
wouldn't let me
because of this file trying to finish installing.
I did do an update first
and IE SP1 was one of the files. How can I get it
to delete, uninstall or quite so I can start over
again?

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You should now be able to reinstall IE6SP1.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

You misinterpreted my question.

When did you install IE6 SP1 (e.g., just recently)?

Was IE6 SP1 ever installed before this? If so, did you ever reinstall WinME
without having first uninstalled IE6 SP?

You misinterpreted my question.

When did you install IE6 SP1 (e.g., just
recently)? RECENTLY

Was IE6 SP1 ever installed before this? NO

If so, did you ever reinstall WinME without having
first uninstalled IE6 SP? NO,
SINCE I KEPT GETTING THE WINDOWS WHICH WAS TRYING
TO FINISH THE
INSTALL I NEVER GOT TO A POINT WHERE I COULD
REINSTALL WINDOWS ME.

Didn't you see an error message when installing IE6SP1 stating something
like "unable to install all components"?

If you follow the workaround I posted on this thread, your problem will be
solved.

Thanks for clarifying.
Every time I boot up a window comes up with the choices to continue
the install or do a new install. If I check
on either choice it comes back and says it's already installed.

Can you post the complete (verbatim) error message, please?

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus application?
