IE 6 Installs but version still says 5.5 ???????????

Hi,
I keep downloading IE6 Service Pack 1 at the
Microsoft Update Website and the Installation History says
it installs sucessfully but my Version under the About IE
list on the IE page stills says I have Version 5.5. I
redid my computer and restored all programs to the way
they were when it was purchased and downloaded IE6 again
and it still says succesful but that I have version 5.5.
Can anyone please tell me what might be wrong??
