After installing a recent update my browser now opens to Windows Update. If
I click on the "Home" icon then it goes to my home page. How can I fix this?

I'm having the same problem running XP SP2. We also have 2000 SP4 machines in
our company that are exhibiting that behavior. Not sure how to turn it off.

I found the simplest thing to do is just let it go there.
After your visit it will let your home page be the start page.

That would be OK if I was the only one who had to deal with it but I have a
domain of 400 or so users and whenever this happens at least 25% of them call
the help desk reporting and/or complaining about it, despite repeated e-mails
asking them to ignore it when it happens.

In that case do however many you have to while monitoring with
RegMon to figure out which registry values are involved.
(I'd try filtering with iexplore*setValue first to try to keep things
manageable unless you know which subkeys to target.)

Good luck
