I'm having a weird problem with IE 6.0.2800 SP1 on Windows
XP Pro.

If I bring up ANY web page, the page loads quickly, the
status shows as done and the status bar shows all bars,
however it takes a good 20 seconds until the cursor is
allowed to type in any field or click on any link. This
happens regardless of the web site (i.e., www.cnn.com,
www.google.com, www.microsoft.com, etc). To say its
frustrating and halts any productivity on this workstation
is an understatement.

To troubleshoot, I've:
- reset all defaults on my Internet Options -> Advanced
- updated to the latest hotfixes and service pack
- ran spybot to detect & remove any spyware (there was
little at best)
- ran anti-virus (w/ latest definitions - nothing found)
- completely removed Internet Explorer and reinstalled it.
- Tried using a different user profile (same results).

I've done everything I can think of short of reformatting
the drive and reinstalling the whole OS.

Any ideas? Anybody?

Go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download Hijack This.

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save
Log" button.
Press that, and save the log somewhere.

NOTE: Most of what Hijack This lists will be harmless, or even required, so
do NOT fix anything
yet.

Next, go to http://forums.spywareinfo.com

Sign in, go to the Browser Hijacking/Spyware Removal section, press "new
topic", explain your
problem, and copy and
paste the contents of the Hijack This log into your new message. You'll get
expert assistance in
dealing with your problem, and I can assure you that you'll be rid of it in
no time at all.

It sure sounds to me as if something is eating up your cpu
during this 20 second time period. You may want to
monitor the cpu usage during this time while you are
clicking on the ie icon, waiting for the page to load and
trying to type something. If your cpu usage sky rockets
during this time period then something is doing it.
Isolate what that something is.

It also sounds as if you do have some type of spyware and
it isn't being detected. Typically, spyware will try to
do whatever it was programmed to do when you open ie.
Check your running tasks/processes/applications to see if
something looks unusual or out of place. For example,
there is a csRRs.exe, ( which is spyware, ) which is made
to look like csrSS.exe which is a bonafied windows service.

People who do such things should be put in jail......way
back where the mushrooms grow.
