IE 6 freezing when going to Windows update site

I have loaded the Cu. Sec. update for IE for Windowx XP Service Pack
2(KB883930) and a big Windows update KB892130 and successfully navigated to
the Windows update site twice, since doing so, but today, IE froze on me
twice when trying to get to the Windows update site--it has been my habit for
the past several years, to go immediately to the Windows update site after
connecting to the Internet for the first time that day--I would like to
continue to do so, but am feeling very frustrated with this problem--the site
I am trying to get to is
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us--and,
today, on the 3d try I got in--is there some way I can get there on a regular
basis? or is there a different url I should be using?

I do have Norton AntiVirus which I also check when first booting up for the
day and Zone Alarm--I have put the MicroSoft update url as a trusted site so
it shouldn't have problems with Zone Alarm

Hi :)

When I click the link that you have posted here, I get the following:

[Error number: 0x8DDD0002]
To install updates from this website, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member
of the Administrators group on your computer. If you use Windows XP, you
can see if you are
an administrator by going to User Accounts in Control Panel.

Note: If your computer is connected to a network, network policy
settings might also prevent
you using this website. Contact your system administrator for help with
updates

I get the same error message when I click the Windows Update on my Start
menu, and it takes a while for this to come up. Thus, I am assuming that..
a) there is a problem with the site at this point, or b) I have the same
problem you do. <g>

I would give it a while and try again. :)

Hope this helps.

1. Why not let Automatic Updates take care of it for you?

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306525

2. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with reaching the site.

3b. Compare errors to those listed here

I don't want Automatic Updates because I need to know when something has
changed on my hard drive--in case I run into problems, it is helpful to know
what has changed. I have, however, signed up for automatic update
notification and then I have always done the updating. I'm afraid I found
your response to my question rather confusing and I have discovered that my
IE Explorer isn't actually freezing, it just takes a very long time for the
MS Update screen to load--about 5 minutes with my DSL connection, so I point
my browser and then do other things at home and come back in a while and then
the screen is there.--
