IE 6 dead in the water

My Internet Explorer 6 has simply stopped working. At
least for HTTP (I can still use it to open local HTML
files). Any HTTP address I browse to results in a "This
page cannot be displayed" screen.

All other Internet access works fine. I can browse OK with
Netscape.

I have a personal firewall. I have tried completely
disabling the firewall. No change.

I am not on a VPN.

It really looks like something has corrupted IE itselg.
But I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE and no change.

Any useful suggestions?

I have encountered the same issues. The issues began after
a windows update (IE security I think). I have followed the
solutions in 241344 without success. Reloaded IE6 X 2, no
success. I give, any suggestions?

PS Netscape 7.1 working fine, so I no it's not a network issue.

Thanks in advance.

YMMV, but it appears that my problem was due to a pesky adware spybot called
SAHAgent. I'm told that this is something that attempt to hijack browsers.
I believe that mine got its hooks into IE but my firewall interrupted some
part of its setup/configuration, so that when I tried to use IE to browse,
the spybot failed and that failure convinced IE that it could not load the
page.

IE was back to normal once I exorcised the demon.

Look in your Windows\System32 directory for a file called sahagent*.exe (my
* was 1008).
