David

Hi,

I sent an email to MS regarding the situation of the disabled seach
features. I've included the original text and reply for those that are
interested.

Has anyone else had any breakthroughs in solving this situation?

David.

QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS
Message: Hi,
Just recently, i noticed about 2 weeks ago, the customize search feature, in
IE6, has changed and not for the better.

Previously, after selecting customize, I had a choice of search engines and
the ability to prioritize them. This function is no longer available.
The 'Next' selection in the search panel tool bar has also been disabled.

These features were good features that I personally used frequently and
would urge Microsoft to re-enable them and also have them included in the
upcoming IE7.

It is extremely annoying having to spend so much time to try and rectify a
problem that was created by Microsoft themselves. Myself and many others
have been inconvenienced by Microsoft's actions.

Please address these concerns.

David

Hello David,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Customer Service.

I personally think, what you would like to implement is very reasonable and
understand how frustrating it is when you find that the product does not
meet your needs. I will forward your suggestion to our development team so
that they may improve this by an update patch to be released in the future
or in the next version of the product.

Also, I suggest that you provide your feedback in the following page:
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp?

This site is for ideas on new or improved features and services that you
would like to see added and ways to make Microsoft products easier. Your
suggestions are always welcome there.

David, if you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reply to
this e-mail.

Thank you for using Microsoft products and services.

Hi David,

Nope! V7 has no search pane as yet and from what I have seen in the press it
appears that MS is changing policy on search providers for their browser. I
have some toolbar buttons that will display the search explorer bars for the
popular search providers. available from
http://www.iecustomizer.com/iebuttonsdownload.htm (bottom of page)

Some of the popular toolbars - Google, MSN and Yahoo have options to make
them your default search provider for IE.

Regards.

Hi Dave,

The same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago also and I have been going
nutz trying to figure out how to fix it. If you figure out how to get the
old search feature back would you please e-mail me (e-mail address removed)_SPAM?
Another question I have is how did it get changed?

Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I don't know how it changed and so far have found no real helpful info. on
how to rectify it.
As you read, MS was of little help.

There were a number of earlier threads on this subject, in this newsgroup,
but they seemed to have dried up with no apparent solution to the problem
being found.

I'll keep looking.

David.

Hi Sherry and David,

The en-us page has been fixed, so if you set your windows language to us
english the customize search feature will give you a listing of us search
engine providers.

Regards.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the heads up.

I do have en-us as my default language. Still no difference.

However, this morning when I attempt to use customize in the search panel, a
window opens informing me that the service
is currently unavailable, and, I quote, "Our team is working to restore
service as quickly as possible. Please try your request again later."

There's definitely something funny going on.

David.
