Out of the blue IE crashes now when I try to save a new, or access an old,
favorite. I tried restoring to an earlier time and that did not help. I
uninstalled and reinstalled IE and that did not help. I get the message
"Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close."

Can someone tell me how to fix this issue?

Thank you.

nass,

I do have the Google toolbar installed, but it hasn't been a problem ever
before. I don't clutter my PC with all the foo-foo BS that some folks do. But
following are the details of the error message I get (I could post the entire
..txt file of the error if need be, let me know):

Error signature: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180

ModName: webcheck.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0

Offset: 00012ea0

nass,

Winsock? Are you quite sure? Anyway, I did what was suggested but it did not
make any difference. :-(

Hi CMD,
TRy to Disable the *Google toolbar* and look in Manage Add-Ons if thier are
Plug-Ins Beowser Helper other than MS IE and Disable one at the time and see
if your Issue resolve from disable one in paticular.
Hope this will be of a help to you.

nass,

Well, this didn't help either. I appreciate your continued support, any
futher ideas?

nass,

Okay, I finally found a fix for the problem.

Using information found in article KB318378 under the heading "Windows XP
and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet Explorer 6", (Even
though I have SP2), I edited the registry to allow me to reinstall IE 6.

After doing this IT STILL told me the same thing as before, "Setup has
encountered a newer version of Internet Explorer on this system. Setup cannot
continue. I rebooted and a message was displayed that read something like,
"IE has been removed from your system, would you like to clean up personal
settings?"

At first I resisted as I didn't want to loose these, but I could still not
reinstall IE. So I rebooted again and this time I choose "Yes" to delete my
personal settings.

At this point I opened IE and attempted to access the Favorite menu and
"Save" a new Favorite and all is well! I am most pleased!

I hope this helps someone else.

Dave
