I have a WinXP dell inspiron 5150 (fairly new) and recently
reformatted and re-installed XP and SP2 and now IE cannot find any
server. IE does work from inside Lotus Notes and Netscape does work so
it's not a network thing and now even FireFox seems to be not able to
go to any sites at least since i had imported my IE settings into it.

I have tried everything.
Saw a thread (2nd Oct "IE 6 cannot find any server" from JMichener)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318378
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q814510)
and tried everything there. But still nothing.

Any advice would help greatly.

thanks,
K

Hi,
Try disabling third-party security programs to see if one of them needs to
be reconfigured or reinstalled. Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm have
been mentioned as having configuration issues with XP SP2. Other programs
can cause connection problems.

Try this Winsock reset:
Log on as an administrator.
From Start> Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following command
netsh Winsock reset
[Enter]

Hi Don,

Thank you for your reply, I gave your suggestions a whirl to no avail
and ended up re-formatting and starting from scratch.

thanks,
K
