My in-law's computer has started having problems with
their Internet Eplorer (IE 6.0). A few days ago, they
connected to the internet (thru dial-up) and tried to
open the browser window, and a message popped up that
said, "Internet Explorer has encountered a serious error
and needs to close". I have seen this message before (on
other computers), but I would just close the browser and
open it up again and everything would be back to normal.
However, when they get this message every time that they
try to open the browser. They had been having some
problems the week before as well. Their computer was
infected with a Trojan virus that kept changing their
homepage. However, I talked them through the process of
deleting the virus (they have McAfee installed and I have
them update the dat files frequetly) and getting rid of
the registry items that Microsoft suggested. That seemed
to fix the problem. They did not delete any keys that
they weren't supposed to, and the computer worked fine
again up until a few days ago. Has anyone else dealt
with this problem before? I have searched every inch of
Microsoft's page to see if I could find a solution, but I
have come up empty. I appreciate any help that someone
could give me. My father in-law works from home and uses
the internet quite frequently, so this is putting a
damper on things. Thank you!
