We have situation that keeps reappearing where users are asked to sign in on
the intranet for no reason, the are not required to. We are on Windows XP
SP2 and the network is Windows 2003 SP1

Users can go for months and months and then suddenly they are asked for
authentication. Somtimes this is rejected and web pages do not load and http
errors are shown. The whole thing seems random and the only way we have
found to overcome it is to delete the users profile and go again.

Can any one help

Regards

Hi John,

Seems to me that the problem lies with your user profiles. Are you using adm
scripts? These can contain registry changes to force Windows Authentication.
Next time it occurs check the users Internet Settings - Security tab for
changes. This will indicate that a startup script is making changes to IE's
settings.

Rob,

I will check this out. We do use GPO's for some IE settings but they are
fairly standard and why on only some machines under the same GPO?
regards
John
