Currently have HP MX50 running Win/ME, IE 6.1, OE 6. Problem is an IE window
will not open automatically when clicking on a link. I can open IE with no
problem from my desktop or toolbar or applications folder. But, when I click
on a shortcut or link on a webpage that normally causes another copy of IE to
open, nothing happens. The 2nd copy never opens. My browser hangs for
60-120 secs, then it becomes active again. I can "copy shortcut" and paste
it in the Address window, and the link will open, so I know it's not a
problem with the link. Same with clicking a link in an email in OE; IE will
not open. Wouild appreciate some assistance.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

To all who responded, thanks for your help. I tried a bunch of everyone's
suggesitions (including down-reving), but no luck I finally did get it
working again. I had run my SBC Anti-Spy s'ware, which quarantined a dozen
adware, spyware, and hijack programs. I removed the them all, and IE stopped
working I restored them all, and it works now. I guess one of the programs
shouldn't have been quarantined. At some poinit, I'll figure out which one.
