IE 6.0 unexpectedly disappearing!

For the past two days now, everytime I click on something to open a new
window, either from my Hotmail (a link in an email) or on a website (like
this one, everytime I clicked to open this window to ask a new question,
everything just disappears), my IE just goes away... no error message,
nothing, it just shuts down and disappears as soon as I click on whatever it
is that I want to do. I had to open my Netscape browser to be able to get
back to here to post my question.

I ran my Ad-Aware several times, but it's not helping. I went through my
Internet Options and cleaned out all the stored cookies, temporary internet
files, etc., but it still keeps doing this. I did a hard drive clean up, but
it still keeps happening.

I'm not a computer wiz my any means, and don't know a lot about all the ins
and outs of it. I know how to use the computer, do some internet stuff, but
that's about it. I don't know how to fix things when they're going wrong.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Carol

1= Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .
= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) and click Apply
then Ok to close your IE Properties.

Open the Run Command and type in:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll click [OK]
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dl
netsh winsock reset
You can copy and paste these commands to a notepad and from the notepad copy
and paste to the run command and Hit Enter or click [OK] to reregister the
DLLs.
Reboot your machine and see if you could Open a link and IE stable.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi nass,

I did everything you said. These were all the "not verified" ones that I
disabled:

CitiUSBrowserHelper Class-Orbiscom Ltd-Browser Helper Object
BhoCitUS.dll

DriveLetterAccess-Sonic Solutions-Browser Helper Object
tfswshx.dll

KodakGalleryEasyUpload-KodakEasyshareGallery-ActiveXControl
axofupld_211-24.dll

MetaStreamCtl Class-Viewpoint Corp-ActiveX Control
AxMetaStream_03000EA3.dll

Snapfish Activia-Snapfish-ActiveX Control
SnapfishActivia1000.ocx

UCSBrowserHelper Class-Orbiscom Ltd-Browser Helper Object
BhoUCS.dll

When I did the "start", "run" items, they all did okay, except when I went
to do these two - regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dl and netsh winsock reset this is
what happened:

regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dl came up with the message: LoadLibrary (“Cryptdlg.dlâ€)
failed – The specific module could not be found.

netsh winsock reset: When I tried this one, a window came up, all black
with a little white blinking hyphen (is this a cursor?),and it stayed on
screen for about 3 seconds and then disappeared.

I rebooted my computer, restarted IE, went into my Hotmail and into a
message with a link, clicked on it, but now instead of "disappearing
windows", they start to do their thing and then freeze. I can only
control/alt/delete to get them to respond.

Oh, I forgot ...in addition to the IE windows freezing sometimes, they're
still also disappearing too. When they don't freeze, they go away. I'm
still having to use my Netscape browser to get around, which is a lot slower
than my IE.

Thanks,
Carol

Hi carol,
Sorry for the Delay, Difference in Global time.
I think you have an Infections at hand here something like Vundo and other
malwares residing on your computer, I will give some links to scan for
Viruses and the HijackThis file to run and send the Log file to one of the
forums listed not here please:
1- Scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.sophos.com
http://www.trendmicro.com
And also for malwares from here Update the Definitions for both and run a
scan:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

2- Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.
Please perform one step (1,2) at a time and see if that will help your
issue.
Please tell us about the Name of that worm next time in your message.
HTH.
Please let us know.

Hi Nass,

I did some of the things you said, some of them I couldn't do either because
I didn't know how or my computer just wouldn't do it..
1- Scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.sophos.com
http://www.trendmicro.com
I couldn't figure out what to get from http://www.sophos.com. There was so
much on the site and I didn't understand most of it.

I did a scan from http://www.trendmicro.com and it said it found about 20
cookies and asked if I wanted them removed, so I said yes. It asked me to do
a second scan and I did, and it said it didn't find anything else after that.
And also for malwares from here Update the Definitions for both and run a
scan:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
I have AdAware already, but I downloaded it again and ran a scan with it. It
said I had 17 critical items, and I had it remove them. They were all
cookies too.

I didn't download anything from http://www.safer-networking.org because
there were about 8 different things that said download, and I didn't know
which one to do.
2- Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many forums for
analysis and troubleshooting: When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.

I didn't download the Hijackthis. When I went to the website for Hijackthis,
it said that it should only be used by experience people who know all about
the files and systems, because I guess I'd have to tell it what files to get
rid of, and if I don't know what I'm doing, I could tell it to get rid of
something that I shouldn't. Since I barely know what a lot of this is, I
didn't think I'd be able to undo something if I told it to do something wrong.

I don't know still what virus or worm is affecting my IE 6. Doing the
things that I was able to do, it didn't fix the problem still.

I tried to uninstall IE 6, did a Google search to find out how, but couldn't
do what was suggested. I don't have any of the original system disks, and
the computer kept asking me for two different Windows XP disks

I'm not sure what to do from here. Since I'm obviously not experienced
enought to do even the things you suggested, I guess I'll have to take the
computer to someone who can figure this out.

I do appreciate your trying to help though. I just wish I was more
knowledgeable, so I could follow the suggestions you gave me.

Thank you for trying.

It is best to get someone how know how to fix this, as Uninstalling and
Reinstalling will not get Rid of the Infection?.

You can create an account with one of these forums above and Send your scan
log to them for analysis and there are experts on removing Viruses and Nasty
Malwares/graywares there, will take you step by step.
But it is better and pain free if you got someone local who know or
experienced in removing Viruses and Malwares to Fix it for you.
Good luck.

nass
