My father is having a problem with IE 6.0 taking 30 to 60
secs to open the Home Page that he has listed in Internet
Options on the General tab.

If he goes to other sites they come up very quickly (he
is connected with a cable modem).

I don't believe it is a problem with the site
(www.startribune.com), since both my brother and I have
it as our Home Page and it comes up almost instantly on
our PCs.

Any thoughts on where to start in solving this problem
would be greatly appreciate. Thanks.

.
check you comp for spyware
Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of
different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively
new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do
not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet
Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your
browser crashes, or if your browser start page has changed
without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But
even if you don't see anything, you may be infected,
because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently
tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing
profile of you that will be sold to advertisement
companies. Spybot-S&D is free,
Search your hard disk for so-called spybots or adbots, the
modules that are responsible for showing ads and
transmitting information back to vendors. If Spybot Search
and Destroy finds such modules, it will remove them or
replace them with empty dummies. In most cases, the host
software still runs after removing the bot. Finally, Spybot
removes your usage tracks (last visited Web sites, opened
files, started programs, and cookies)

download it from

or

and try

Thanks for the reply. I'll download and run the software
that you've mentioned and see if this fixes the problem.
