I'm having a persistent problem with Internet Explorer 6.0. I have a
relatively new IBM ThinkPad which is running Windows XP Professional and has
a built-in wireless ethernet card. Whenever I switch from one wireless
network to another (e.g., from school to work, or vice versa), I experience
a DNS Error/Can't Find Server Error when I start IE. Although my bookmarks
and cookies are all preserved, IE loads up with a "This Page Cannot Be
Displayed" error, and the address line says http:/// (three slashes after
the colon). When I go into Internet Options, it seems that IE has
"forgotten" my default homepage. Anyway, when I reset the default homepage
and click on bookmarks IE works fine. Also, Outlook Express and Netscape
work fine . . .the problem is just with IE. I've run an antivirus program
and an updated version of SpyBot. Again, the problem occurs when I go from
work or school or from school to work. However, when I am on one network,
shut the computer down (or hibernate), and return to the same network, IE
runs normally. So the problem definitely occurs only when I switch wireless
networks.
