IE 6.0 Encoding problem

T

Travis

For some reason my IE 6.0 is not recognizing the proper
encoding for most webpages. I have tried to have the Auto-
Select feature on and off, to no avail. It keeps selecting
Western European (ISO) when it should be selecting Western
European (Windows). I have to manually switch this
everytime I visit a new page, which needless to say is a
painstakingly slow while surfing the net.

Anyone have any ideas? Any way to set the encoding to
Western European (Windows) and leave it there?

I have the exact same problem which occurred after
installing SBC yahoo DSL. Apparently the Yahoo Browser
caused the selection of the (ISO) instead of (Windows)
Still searching to make (Windows) the default.

Look at the registry settings as per this article.

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer
A Web page may display an image as a red X, or a placeholder may appear in
place of the image.
Covers also this problem: Web page that is encoded for the Western European
(ISO) code page might not display any images:
