On my XP Home computer (not on a network), closing all
web pages (closing browser) used to bring up disconnect
prompt dialogue box. Doesn't do this any more so I have
to unplug phone connection to work off-line without
connection to ISP. How can I make it revert?

Try this:
-Open IE, click Tools | Internet Options
-Click the Connection tab
-Double-click on your Internet Connection, click "Advanced"
-Click "Disconnect if idle for XX minutes" checkbox to clear it
-Click OK, click OK again.

If the above suggestion doesn't work, try modifying the EnableAutodisconnect
value in registry:
(Backup your registry first)
-open regedit, navigate to this branch:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]

-Double-click the EnableAutodisconnect and change the data value to 01 00 00
00

-After you make this change and quit Registry Editor, restart your
computer.
