As I understand it from reading other posts in this group - Remote
Assistance will only work on Win XP to Win XP machines, not WinMe to Win XP.

My friend (constantly) wants me to sort her WinMe computer out for her (I do
it for free) and Remote Assistance would make my like so much easier!!

Is there an idiots guide anywhere that can assist me with setting up this
remote assistance? I've read in other posts that you need to setup a VPN (I
have no idea how to do this!).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Si.

You simply can not use XP Remote Assistance in this case...so...

Look at either NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) or UltraVNC. Both can provide an encrypted
data link to allow you to do what you want.

NetMeeting in built-in to XP and W2K and can *NOT* be upgraded. To start NetMeeting on an XP
platform go to "Start -> Run" and type conf at the command line to start the wizard. Look at this KB
article for additional help...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;233175

Please note that RDS is *NOT* compatible with XP Remote Desktop.

Get the UltraVNC server/client software and encryption plug-in from...

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
http://home.comcast.net/~msrc4plugin/

Or have the Windows Me user upgrade to either XP Pro or XP Home and use Windows XP Remote
Assistance...
