How do I know if I have re-write capabilities on my laptop? Presario

Well, is your optical drive a CD-RW drive? If so, you will be able to copy
files to a CD-RW disk, then when you want to reuse the disk, you will be
able to erase the files on that disk and copy others to it.

If you mean "read/write files at random", as in using a CD-RW disk as a huge
floppy disk, you must have a CD-RW drive, plus packet-writing software
(such as Nero's InCD), and the CDRW disks you use must be formatted using
the same packet-writing software you use to read and write files to them.

So, here are the questions to ask yourself to answer your question:
1) Is your optical drive a CD-RW drive?
2) Do you have packet-writing softare on the laptop's HD?

Open "my computer"
Is your CD listed as CD-RW?
If it is you are able to write to CD.

If still unsure, right click the CD and bring up the properties - it would have
a recording tab.

I'd go to my instruction manual!

You obviously have not purchased a new PC from any of
the major sellers recently; they no longer provide any
manuals (it is cheaper not to provide any supporting
items) or even backup copies of loaded software. The
lure of fast profit has created a monster that is totally
unfriendly to the customer, and new users are beginning
to get disgusted with both software and hardware sellers.

True, but I have found it relatively easy to go to their web sites (of
the majors like, Dell, Gateway, HP for example) and download the
manuals in the PDF format. Use a little bandwidth, and the manual is
right there on your pooter...
