Does anyone have a ood step by step guide on how to add security to a database?

Every time I try and go through the User Level Security Wizard, I end up
spend an hour undoing what I just did.

I need to have several logins to the database with varied allowances, of
course.

Office, Teacher, CITS, ISS, & Admin are the groups. Would appreciate any
help.
