I'm trying to create an identity in Windows Mail, but it says they are not
used. Does that mean like... ever? If that is the case, then why remove a
feature? Especially if people are so used to it! I let my entire family use
my computer. They're not on it enough to justify giving them an *entire
account* to waste up my hard drive space, and annoy me when I turn on my
computer. It was a very small, yet very useful feature. Why get rid of it?
I don't get it...

Its gone. There were arguments for and against it, and those against it
won.

Its not that hard to emulate, so I may try and make a program that will let
you get such. It won't have any security, but who cares about that? <G>

Luckily I just upgraded to Outlook seeing as I couldn't get Outlook Express
back, and they offer different user account features. It's more confusing,
but I think I've figured it out. I just need to get everyone to create their
accounts again. I hope it works...

"upgraded"

Well, I guess that's one reason one could claim they got rid of that
feature. Get Outlook instead.

Well I would consider switching from Windows Mail to Outlook an upgrade. It
has the account features which the other one failed to provide, it's far more
customizable, and very easy to use.

each to his own.

I have figured out how to create the user names but now is there any way for
me to switch between the user accounts without closing outlook and opening
the entire program again?

Is there anyway to bring identities back, I have 3 different work emails
that I have to use multtiple times a day and it was very useful. Thanks for
any help

No to the first question.

As to the second, I'm working on a little application that should allow a
simulated Identities feature. Keep watching here. It shouldn't take me too
long to develop it.

How about an option in the settings to route the incoming email messages to a
certain folder. This folder can easily be created for each account in the
local folder. This way the email messages for the accounts are at least
separated into a separate folder. (Not necessesarily with a password.) I,
too, like the use of the computer shared with the family without different
user names but it would be nice that the mail is separated.

Yep, basing the rule on Account is better because quite often
incoming mail may have been addressed via CC or BCC rather
than To.

Actually not. I filter out spam not addressed to To. BCC go right into the
junk as I don't trust people who use that. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#9
I get rid of LOTS of junk from people who use BCC and not To. The account
means nothing.

Can OE be installed on Vista?

No, OE won't install on Vista.
If that was an option, most of us would be going that route.
