I've just constructed a new system using an Athlon 64 3800+ on an MSI
K8N Neo-4 Platinum motherboard. Very happy so far, systems seems rock solid.

The CoreCenter temperature monitor software supplied with the
motherboard seems to see the clock speed as ~ 2GHz (200MHz FSB with x10
multiplier). I am aware the 3800+ has a 2.4GHz clock speed. The box the
CPU came in is labelled as the 3800+, and MS System Info shows the
processor as the 3800+

Dodgy CoreCenter methinks??

How do I determine whether I have the Venice or Newcastle model of the
3800+ ??

Thanks, Stupot

I believe a Athlon 64 running at 2.0GHz with 1024K of level 2 cache (Venice
core) is rated at 3800+.
My Athlon 64 was running at 2.0GHz with 512K level 2 cache and is rated at
3500+.

Not an X2 3800+ by any chance? If so, the speed is correct.
If not, you might have a look in your BIOS to see if you can set the
multiplier to 12 (which should have been the default for a single core
3800+). If your CPU is OK, the change should take.
