Identify what "processes" are required; and what "services" are required

We have 40 processes running, and almnost all the services are checked and
installed/running.
I cannot find out how to make sense of the gibberish identities of them, so
I can't tell which to disable to make our machine faster/more efficient.
Where are these items defined or decoded?

40 is a very conservative number. What you really want to look at is which
one is using the most processor capacity.
