I bought 2 CD-RWs from BestBuy on sale, MediaStor. $20 after rebates.
The box says 52X32X52. I bought them at same time, from same shelf,
right next to each other. Put them in, lo and behold BIOS says one is
52X32X52, the other is 52X24X52. Swapped master/slave/cable select...
same thing. So much for identical. What a rip off. Get what you pay
for, I guess.

Do the drives themselves look identical, including the bottom,
recessed areas?

If so, you may be able to update the firmware.

How is it a ripoff though? Weren't they both advertised as 52x24x52,
so essentially one was a free upgrade? The more significant issue is
the make/model... if they're BTC, Behavior Tech, Top-G, etc, they are
junk, but if BenQ or Liteon, perhaps worth the $20.

No the box say 52X32X52.

What does your RECIEPT say?

If 52x32x52, then I'd call and complain... Sound like the wrong label got
stuck on the drive. Your reseller wouldn't have a clue that it was marked
wrong. They should have the serial # so they will know you didn't try and
pull a fast one, so they should be able to exchange it.

BIOS could be wrong.

Try another program...maybe AIDA.

Look at the serial numbers...for more insight into the discrepancy.

Have a nice week...

.... and you expect to burn rewritable discs @ 32X, or is it just the
principle?

I would be more concerned with the actual make of (relabeled) drive, a
junk drive might not be too good buring RW @ 32X even if it claims it
can, even if you had RW media capable of 32X.... I didn't even realize
there was any 32X RW media. If the two drives are different models
it's even possible the 52x24x52 model is a better drive.
