ideas on troubleshooting internet connections

I have Verizon DSL. Works pretty good.
Except I am no longer able to use the newegg site. I realised this
when I tried to log in a few months ago.
Pings 29s although I think the problem is with their secure server.
Newegg is no help at all. they say maybe its my browers (Firefox) and
to use IE. I have IE and tried but no improvement.
I do not know how to troubleshoot this issue.

The secure server does not kick in until you checkout.
Check the Host file and make sure that it is not blocking sites (http://www.ezlan.net/host.html).

thankyou for your reply and valuable information. I am going to
explore the Host file and try to understand what it says to do.
(unblock the site)
I use Fire Fox usually, but also use IE for remotely accessing the
business server from home, so switching over to IE for these purposes
is no problem. but I was using Fiefox to do biz with neweg b4 this
prob and am wondering if FireFox also has a similar Host file.
anyway you gave a lot to study and try. thanks again
