has any one seen this message before secondary ide channel no 80 conductor cable installed. machine runs great have changed cable no difference.new machine athlon xp k7s6a cheers for now

An 80, usually has a blue, grey and black connector ... the blue must be attached to the MB, the grey is "slave" and black is "master" ... if this combination is not set on some HD/MB then your system may get confused and not recognise it has an 80 col' cable.

Mucks. ;)

yes blue connector is on mb hdd set to master master connection used.does secondary not refer to cd cheers nigel

Try your CD drives on the Secondary channel (IDE2) ;)

yes they are on seperate channels ie hdd on ide1 cdrom on ide2 cheers ps.am i doing somthing daft

Nope, not that I can see ... have you tried another cable?

yep. the only thing i can think of ibm drive could be set to slave although i checked.must admit ibm has lots of settings, what do you think cheers

Yep, those IBM's are a little confusing ... it should have been set as master from the factory, but I have found that some HD's don't like hanging off as slave ... or ... the IBM needs re-jumping to accommodate a slave.

I have my IBM on the RAID controller (IDE3) and my WD on IDE1 as master ... when I get the second IBM, (ran out of money at the moment) it will go on IDE4 as master so I'll leave the jumpers as it comes. Then I’ll mess about with RAID.

Mucks. :D
