I need to know if I can connect a third piece of hardware
on my secondary IDE. I now have a DVD and a CDR/RW but I
want to get a faster CDR/RW. I would like to put the new
one on my secondary IDE but I don't see a connecter for a
third player. How do I connect this new CDR/RW to my
secondary.
Thank You
Ron

You can't. Each channel (PRI and SEC) supports only 2 devices. Period.
You can, however, purchase a component called a "controller card" which fits
into an unused PCI slot on the motherboard. This unit will permit the
installation/connection of - depending upon model - up to 4, 6, or even 8
additional IDE devices.

There are some additional options available:
How many HDD's do you currently have installed? If only one, then your
problem is solved. [You have a connector open].

Or...what about removing the slower burner and saving it as a backup or for
a second computer?

Or...what about putting one of the 3 ATAPI drives into a USB 2.0 enclosure?
This would enable you to run all the drives you currently have PLUS the
proposed [faster] burner.

Hopefully there's something in here that sounds appealing to you.

Thanks for your reply. Now as to answer your reply I have
an IDE controller card that came with my second HDD. It is
an ATA133 with a Promise chip and 2 slots. I had no need
for it at that time. Is an IDE controller card made only
for HDD's. If this controller card is the one I need how
does it get installed. Must I install software first or
controller card first then software?
Thank You

I would recommend you read the documentation that came with your
controller card - it will tell you how to do the installation.

Hmm. AFAIK, a controller card like yours can be used for HDD's and/or ATAPI
drives. I would suggest you d/l the current drivers for the card from
Promise first. Then install the card with no drives attached and boot up.
Let Windows find it, and upgrade the drivers as required with the set you
d/l'd from the web. Then shut down, disconnect your ATAPI drives from the
mobo, and reattach the DVD as SECMASTR. Attach the old R/W as [Promise]
SECMASTR, and when the new R/W is avail, attach it to [Promise] PRIMASTR.
