What do you think about the Promise IDE RAID cards (TX2) vs the
Adaptec 1200A IDE card? Also how do they compare with build SATA
RAID systems? With one or two mirror pairs?

There are a number of reasonable software/firmware RAID solutions including
Promise, SiliconImage(SIIG), Adaptec, Intel and MS's in W2K3 and W2K.

SATA vs ATA is not a significant issue YET EXCEPT the only really fast ATA
HD is SATA WDC Raptor.

How about the recently-released Maxtor DiamondMax 10 (MaxLine III). 16MB
cache, 7,200rpm, 300GB capacity (3x 100GB platters), NCQ, and it's $/GB
price is pretty good.

How about the 7200RPM Hitachi 7K400?

I've installed the Adaptec 1200A and the Promise FT100 TX2 boards
already. The 1200A isn't WHQL certified but seems of for Wkstn.

Just the Max cable length is longer.. 39" vs 18".
