Hi, Ben.
In addition to Device Manager, Win2K and WinXP include a new built-in
utility called Disk Management. It's a great tool that creates and deletes
partitions, formats them, assigns drive letters - and more. Find it and
study both the utility and the Help file. There are several ways to get
there; one is to type at the Run prompt: diskmgmt.msc
In Disk Management, click Action | Rescan Disks. If this doesn't find your
slave drive, then look in Help | Help Topics and type "foreign" into the
Search box, then scroll down under foreign disks to "moving to another
computer". Also search for "initializing status" if this doesn't tell you
enough to get the drive recognized.
