I was wondering does any have any software or personal advice I am
attempting to copy old hard drive WD 160gb IDE to a WD 500gb sata
drive. I am looking for the cleanest way to copy the entire OS I
really do not want to have to reinstall the OS and all the software
that is currently on the hard drive.

New drives like Maxtor and Western Digital (that are not OEM versions) come
with a CD that includes a drive copy utility.

If you have a OEM Hard Drive (No CD) then go to the Manufacturer's web site.

When XP is installed on a Sata drive doesn't the F6 option to load the Sata
drivers need to be done? If so then how could a copy of XP from an IDE
drive work when cloned to a Sata replacement? How would the WD cloning
software know what Sata controller drivers to use?

Ok I was able to get the copy done this drive was an OEM drive so no disc. I ended up using acronis migrate easy version 7. No I have the problem when I remove the original IDE drive the computer boots to the windows login screen and then it dosen't move. Also is there a way to remap the drive letters prior to booting the computer.
