In general, what is a better setup for a computer with 2
hard drives, cd rom drive, and a burner. Both HDs on the
same cable or a HD and one of the CD-Roms on the same
cable?

Thanks

I prefer both HD's on same IDE and both CD-ROM's on other. If the hard
drives are of similar modern era, they will have UDMA66 or UDMA100 bus
speed. Most CD ROM's have slower IDE bus speed and would slow down your hard
drive.

It's better to have your cd rom and burner on different channels (there
'can be' interferance when on the same channel.) If you have a spare
slot you can pick up an inexpensive UDMA card for your hard drives.

both hard drives on the same ide cable to ide1. if a h/d
and cdrom are on the same cable the transfer rate
defaults to the slowest device i.e cdrom.

With the newer Busmaster IDE Drivers a hard drive sharing the same
cable with a cdrom is no
big deal. To get the maximum efficiency out of your cdrom and cdr burner you
want to place them
on different cables.
